Ralph S. Mosca, M.D.
Pediatric & Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery
Dr. Ralph Mosca is a Professor and the Division Chief for Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery at NYU School of Medicine. His medical/surgical interests include; reparative and palliative surgery in neonates and children with complex cardiac malformations including hypoplastic left heart syndrome as well as the treatment of adults with congenital heart disease.
Internationally recognized as an accomplished congenital heart surgeon, Dr. Mosca is working with the Division of Pediatric Cardiology to build a world class pediatric and adult congenital heart disease center at NYU.
Dr. Mosca received his medical degree with honors from SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York, where he also completed his general surgery residency. After concluding his cardiac surgery training at Columbia University, Dr. Mosca completed an additional pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
Among his basic science and clinical research achievements, Dr. Mosca has been involved in recent NIH trials investigating the optimal surgical treatment of patients with complex single ventricle lesions, as well as a co-investigator on NIH funded research evaluating the function of the heart in patients with congenital heart disease. Additionally, he has helped develop mechanical devices to support the failing heart.
Dr. Mosca is a member of many prestigious national and international organizations dealing with congenital heart disease including the Congenital Heart Surgeons Society, the American Association of Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Dr. Mosca serves as a reviewer for many academic journals and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
His work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Circulation.
