Gregory H. Crooke, M.D.
Cardiothoracic Surgery
Dr. Crooke is an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine. Currently he is an attending surgeon at NYU Medical Center, Manhattan VA Medical Center, and at Bellevue Hospital Center.
Dr. Gregory Crooke has returned to NYU after 12 years. He has brought with him extensive experience in complex adult and pediatric heart surgery. Dr. Crooke is experienced in all types of cardiac surgery including: assist devices, cardiac transplant, surgery for congestive heart failure, minimally invasive valve surgery and valve repair, pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery, surgery of the thoracic aorta, and complex and reoperative cardiac surgery.
Dr. Crooke received his MD degree from Cornell University Medical College. He did his internship and General Surgery residency at Northwestern University. He did his research fellowship and his Cardiothoracic Surgery training at NYU. While in the lab at NYU he did work on myocardial protection and presenting at national meetings and publishing in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
Upon completion of his training in 1992 he served as a Major in the United States Air Force with the 59th Medical Wing. There, in addition to his military and readiness duties, he was a member of the DODs busiest heart team. After his military commitment, he received additional training in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic transplantation at the University of Southern California and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
Prior to coming back to NYU, he was on Faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Director of the pediatric cardiac surgery program at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, and one of the 2 surgeons who started a new and very successful transplant and assist device program at Montefiore Medical Center.
His areas of interest include surgery for congestive heart failure: including valve repair, left ventricular reconstruction, assist device placement, and cardiac transplantation. His experience at Montefiore has made him one of the areas most experienced surgeons in the treatment of post myocardial infarction and post-cardiotomy shock. He is expert in minimally invasive valve surgery. Other clinical areas of interest and expertise include surgery for complex endocarditis, adult congenital reconstructions, and surgery of the aorta.
Dr. Crooke's current research interests include ischemic mitral regurgitation, left ventricular remodeling, and minimally invasive valve surgery.
