Dr. Didier F. Loulmet is an attending cardiac surgeon at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospitals Center. Noted as one of "The 100 Top Minimally Invasive Surgeons" by the New York Magazine, Dr. Loulmet has been consistently recognized as one of "The Best Doctors in New York" (New York Magazine) as well as one of "America's Top Doctors" (Castle Connolly Guide).
Dr. Loulmet's surgical interests include heart valve surgery, aortic surgery, and coronary revascularization. He specializes in valve repairs and minimally invasive approaches. He is a pioneer in robotic assisted surgery, performing the world's first totally endoscopic robotic coronary artery bypass grafting in 1998 as well as the world's first totally endoscopic robotic pulmonary vein isolation in 2002. Dr. Loulmet aslo performed the world's first video-assisted minimally invasive mitral valve repair in 1996.
Dr. Loulmet is a member of many national and international professional societies, including The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery as well as the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
Dr. Loulmet received his medical degree from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France. he completed his general surgery residency and cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of Paris under the direction of Dr. Alain Carpentier the inventor of the heart valve repair techniques. Dr. Loulmet completed an additional adult and pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Children's Hospital in Boston.
