Dr. Charles F. Schwartz is Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at NYU Medical Center. His interests include minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, coronary artery surgery, and the surgical correction of thoracic aneurysms.
Dr. Schwartz has published papers in prestigious peer-reviewed publications including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Surgical Research, and Circulation. Additionally, he has presented his research at the Surgical Forum of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Association for Academic Surgery, and the American Heart Association. He has also co-authored numerous book chapters on topics in cardiovascular surgery, including mitral valve repair and mitral valve endocarditis.
Dr. Schwartz earned his M.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his internship and general surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital. As a research fellow in the thoracic surgery myocellular biology research laboratory at the University of Michigan Medical Center, he investigated methods of improving myocardial protection during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and techniques of mitral valve reconstruction in ischemic heart disease. He trained in cardiothoracic surgery at the NYU Medical Center.
