Cardiothoracic Surgery
Abe DeAnda Jr., MD is a native of Texas and a graduate of Stanford University, where he obtained his bachelor degree (in Biomedical Engineering), his doctorate in medicine, as well as his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery training. He previously spent five years on the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia and four years on the faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. He served as residency program director and director of aortic surgery at both institutions.
Dr. DeAnda is involved in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic surgery, including valve surgery and revascularization. He has a clinical and research focus on diseases involving the aorta, and has written and lectured extensively on the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic aortic diseases. He has been involved in clinical research projects and written on blood and blood-component substitutes and treatment of patients with HIT (heparin-induced thrombocytopenia). He is also a proponent and advocate of bloodless cardiac surgery.
Dr. DeAnda is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Heart Association, and is a member of numerous societies including the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles.
